The Challenge
Give a lackluster Ebay store an extreme makeover and the search engine
optimization needed to take off and run on the Yahoo Store platform. Design
it to show of the beauty of these collectible cruise books. And foremost,
make navigation and search easy.
Most collectors are sailors who actually sailed on the
boat. The cruise book may have been too expensive for their meager salary
back when, but today they want to recall their youth and remember all their
shipmates. With hundreds of cruise books available, we needed to make it
easy to drill right down to a specific boat. |

How We Met the Challenge
We opted for a distinctly naval look with a carrier executing a sweeping
turn out of Gunner's plain-text logo. For navigation, we used ship types
as the top level. For each ship, we found an actual at-sea photo available
copyright free in Navy archives. We think these action pictures of the various
boats give the site an immediacy and beauty you would never capture for photos
of book covers.
We gave Gunner a right column where he can display timely
announcements and showcase his newest arrivals.
We built search engine optimization into the very fabric
of the site. This was required because cruise books are true collectibles.
Gunner buys them when sailors decide to sell, and then adds them to his site.
We needed to set up RTML to automatically produce a SEO worthy page when
this retiring naval officer adds each new page.
