How We Met the Challenge
Paige wanted a boxy look but she wanted it elegant and classy as well. We
think the mix of her smiling face with her beautiful wares laid out in a
series of boxes comes as close as possible to integrating those disparate
design elements. The overall effect is pleasing to the eye and inviting to
the reader. Paige can easily change the front page pictures and News Blurbs
in the right column with a point-and-click back office interface.
Such designs are often rendered in a fixed screen width
making them fit well in a screen of 800 x 600 resolution, but leaving a great
deal of empty space around the content when viewed with today's much more
common high-resolution screens. Instead, we took the time to design this
complex layout so that it smoothly expands to fit the available screen.
We used text navigation throughout the site. We focused
on adding additional traffic as well as Page Rank with a reciprocal links
page. We replaced the default Yahoo page templates with ones that allow including
all the custom content that feeds the search engine spiders.

Extreme Makeover (Before)
The Challenge
Make the front page look alive and inviting while broadcasting loud and clear
what the site's purpose is.
Our first hurdle was to find a look for the site. The
original site had no logo. Paige wanted something simple yet elegant. We
came up with this:
It is simple and elegant, integrates nicely with the boxy look Paige favored,
and adds interest through the interlacing of the loops of the lower "P" and
the tail of the "g".
The original site Had not been designed for search engine
optimization (SEO). It was not getting any more than a few visitors a week,
final proof that the old sam, "If you build it, they will come." does not
apply to Web sites. By adding SEO to the project, we were able, without the
need for paid ads, to attract respectable crowds of shoppers to the
redesigned store. |
