How We Met the Challenge
The problem with the site was not so much its look, but the fact that that
look was achieved by using graphics for the entire front page, there was
ZERO keyword rich text on the page. WHat looked like text was rendered in
the site's graphics. Now the first rule of SEO is search engine spiders
can't "read" images. So we converted the page links to text and switched
the text in the images to real text. We did lots more, but we don't want
to give away too many trade secrets here.
We kept the color scheme of the site and the basic look,
but switched the body of the page to a comic-book style that added some whimsy
and stickiness to the site.
This change was completed 4/23/04. We'll report back
on the improvement in search rankings as soon as the spiders have a chance
to crawl the site. |

The Challenge

Take the professionally designed site shown above and redesign it to supercharge
its sales.
This was no simple assignment. The original site had
been built by one of the premier Yahoo Store design firms. But our analysis
showed that there were significant areas for improvement. The original site
Had not been designed for search engine optimization (SEO). It was doing
well in traffic, but most of that was coming from Pay-per-Click (PPC)
advertising. We saw that we could more than double the traffic by SEO. Next
we focused on expanding the product line and on adding additional traffic
as well as Page Rank with a reciprocal links page.
