Splash, and Sink Fast in Search

A splash page is a landing page for a Web site with lots of graphics and
pizzazz and nothing much else. Often the only text on the page is a link
saying "Enter". The page usually looks terrific. In fact, it may
make a big splash with your visitors. Trouble is the search engine
spiders expect to find the most important keywords for your entire site on
the first page that opens. If that page is a splash page, then all your site
is about in the spider's eyes is enter. There is no more certain
way to sink a site in the search engines than to have the landing page be
a splash page. If you need a page where you can let your creative flair run
free, make it some inside page, and build yourself a home page that is rich
in spider food. What good is a terrific looking landing page if
nobody ever finds their way to it?
