Self Launching Sound--Not Such a Sound
Idea!
 Embedded sound files are another one of those oh-so-cool
effects that Web newbies adore, till the first time they get caught by surprise.
Somebody's been using the computer during the middle of the day to listen
to MP3s REAL LOUD! You forget the sound is cranked up through the roof. It's
now 2 AM and everybody else in the house is sound asleep--until you hit this
site and the sound comes blaring out like a police bullhorn. Because of this,
lots of Internet veterans have come to despise auto-launching sound in web
sites, especially if it is some cheesy sounding MIDI file.
If you want to embed sound, it's a good idea to provide
a button and let the user decide to launch the music or leave it off as they
see fit.
Also be aware that current music is mostly under copyright.
You have no more right to just grab it for free and embed it in your site
than you do to steal the text and graphics of a neat site belonging to a
competitor and claim it for your own. Do it, and you are quite likely to
get a cease and desist letter from the artist's attorneys. Make lots of money
with it, and you may find yourself in court.
