My Computer's Best Hopefully you have a great computer. Maybe everybody
should have one just like it. But the simple truth is that everyone doesn't.
There are as many different monitor sizes, screen resolutions, operating
systems and computer platforms as there are human foot sizes. One size fits
all makes no more sense in Web pages than it does in shoes.

This is a page designed to fit a 2000 x 1600 pixel display. Admitedly, this
is an extreme, but it represents an important web design princilple. If you
design a page to fit your BIG display and someone with a smaller display
resolution visits your site, half the page flows off the right side of their
screen. Will they actually scroll over to see everything on the page? This
is just a test page, and hopefully you will scroll to get to the critical
element here, the page navigation. But in regular web sites don't count on
users horizontally scrolling to see a page you optimized for your BIG display.
It's mcuh easier to hit the back button and seek more readable sites. Don't
want to scroll? Here's a page that's narrow enough for just about everyone's
display.
